Porcelain Crowns (Caps)
A dental crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the tooth surfaces restoring it to its form and function. A porcelain crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with a composite filling or other restorative options.
Although there are multiple types of crowns, porcelain or tooth-colored crowns are the most popular because they resemble your natural teeth. They are highly durable and long-lasting, but like most restorative options, they may eventually need to be replaced. Tooth color crowns are designed to resemble the color, shape, and size of your teeth giving you a beautiful and natural smile.
Reasons to consider crowns:
-
Cosmetic improvement.
-
-
Defective restorations.
-
Carious Teeth.
-
-
Large fillings.
What does getting a porcelain crown involve?
A porcelain crown procedure takes two appointments. Your first visit will include taking multiple highly accurate molds (or impressions), or a three-dimensional scan using CAD/CAM that will be used to create your custom crown in Brooklyn NY. A mold will be used to create a provisional or temporary crown which will be placed on your tooth for about two weeks until your new crown is fabricated by a dental laboratory.
While the tooth is numb, your dentist in Brooklyn, NY will prepare the tooth by removing any tooth decay and shaping the surface to fit the crown. Once these preparations are done, the provisional crown will be placed with temporary cement, and your bite will be examined to ensure your bite is accurate.
During your second visit, your provisional crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your finalized crown will be carefully fitted to ensure the bite and margins of the crown are perfect.
You will be given post-operative instructions and encouraged to have regular dental visits to evaluate your new crown. If you are considering getting a dental crown in Brooklyn, Crown Heights, Fort Greene, or Park Slope neighborhoods, contact Brooklyn Dentist for more information.
