Course of Treatment for a Single Tooth Replacement
INSTALLING THE NEW TOOTH – STEP-BY-STEP
On average, this procedure takes four visits to the dentist’s office. There are many different treatment options available, but the most common treatment at our office is described here.

1: Before the procedure
First, the dentist, Dr. Shahin, will take an X-ray of the affected area.
| 2: Installing the implant
The tooth implant is then surgically installed into the jawbone along with a temporary tooth that lasts until your next visit. You should expect to be able to work the day after the procedure. |

3: Attaching the new crown
Over the next few months, the mouth will heal and the implant will integrate into the jawbone. At your next visit, the new porcelain tooth will be attached permanently, and you will be provided with care instructions.
| 4: End result
You should expect the new tooth replacement to function just like a natural tooth would. Regular dental hygiene to keep the tooth and gum around it clean is paramount for the long-term success of any dental implant. |
Alternatives to this procedure include tooth-supported fixed bridges, resin-bonded bridges, and removable partial dentures.
 | Tooth-supported fixed bridge
These are stable traditional bridges that permanently provide you with good esthetics. They are fairly easy to install but involve grinding adjacent teeth for bridge support. The main disadvantages of this procedure are sacrificing healthy teeth for the bridge and continuous bone resorption in the edentulous area.

 | Removable partial denture
These are a non-permanent, plastic solution to missing teeth. They can be quickly and easily installed and are relatively cheap. Surrounding teeth are not affected during treatment. Removable partial dentures give low esthetic results because of their material. They also attach loosely, which can negatively affect the wearer’s comfort and level of function.

 | Resin-bonded bridge
These are non-permanent ceramic bridges that function well, give a high esthetic result, and can be quickly installed. Healthy teeth are not affected by this procedure. The disadvantage of resin-bonded bridges is that they will come off after a few years and must be reinstalled.
