Invisalign® (Clear Aligners)
A healthy and attractive smile is a great confidence booster, but few of us are born with teeth that are naturally perfect and straight. Fortunately, there are several options for correcting tooth alignment problems. Invisalign® from our Brooklyn dental office in Crown Heights is the perfect choice for adults and teens who prefer discreet orthodontic treatment.
What Can Clear Braces Treat?
Invisalign® can be used to correct most of the alignment problems that traditional braces can treat, including:
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Tooth crowding
- Large gaps between teeth
While many people think only in terms of aesthetics when they consider orthodontics, there are some even more important reasons to use a system like Invisalign; in some cases, crooked teeth can lead to an increased risk of gum disease and tooth decay. Straightening teeth with clear braces ensures that that you have a healthy and beautiful smile.
The Comfort and Convenience of Invisalign®
Conventional metal braces include brackets that are bonded to teeth, and correct alignment with periodic adjustments of wires threaded through these brackets.
Invisalign is different: instead of metal brackets and wires, Invisalign® uses a number of custom-made plastic aligner trays which are worn over the teeth. Each tray is worn 23 hours a day for two weeks. Every new tray you wear throughout treatment is slightly different, and helps improve smile alignment. Over time, wearing the trays has the same effect as wearing metal braces, with the teeth gradually moved into new positions.
The difference is, Invisalign is much less noticeable, and because the trays are not permanently fixed in place they can be removed for eating and regular brushing and flossing.
The Invisalign Treatment Process
If you're interested in getting Invisalign® in Crown Heights, Prospect Park, or Park Slope neighborhoods, the first thing to do is schedule a consultation with our Brooklyn Invisalign® dentists. At your initial consultation, we'll take 3-D digital impressions of your jaw and teeth, look at your current tooth alignment, and assess what changes Invisalign can make. These impressions are also used to create your customized Invisalign trays; most people receive between 20 and 29 sets of trays, depending on their treatment plan.
Wearing Invisalign trays is comfortable; it won't be long before they feel completely natural.
