Fixed Bridges

Brooklyn Dentist

Fixed dental bridges are a highly durable, non-removable solution for replacing missing teeth. Fixed bridges can fill the gap in your smile left by missing teeth for a lifetime and require little attention once they’re placed. Re-cementation or replacement may be necessary with time.

The most popular type of fixed bridge our Brooklyn dental office offers is the “traditional bridge”. Our dentists may recommend their patients to get a fixed bridge for many reasons.

Reasons to get a fixed bridge:

  • Restoring the smile
  • Preventing remaining teeth from moving out of position
  • Maintaining facial shape
  • Restoring speaking and chewing ability
  • Upgrading from a removable partial denture to a permanent solution

What is the process for getting a fixed bridge like?

The “traditional bridge” is made up of two parts: two crowns placed over two anchoring (abutment) teeth, and the pontics (artificial teeth) that fill in the gap left by missing teeth.

Getting a bridge fitted and cemented to your mouth will take at least two visits to the dentist. During your first visit, the dentist will numb the teeth and prepare crowns for the two anchors. A unique mold will then be made of your mouth and sent to a lab where the bridge will be made according to your mouth shape.

A temporary bridge will be made for you, which you can wear until your next appointment.

At the second appointment, the dentist will place the permanent bridge into your mouth, adjust it, and then cement it to achieve a proper and comfortable fit. In some cases, the Brooklyn Dentist, Dr. Shahin, may only temporarily cement the bridge in place, allowing you to get used to the bridge for some time before it is permanently cemented at your next visit.

Care instructions for proper recovery, brushing, flossing, and overall oral care will be provided.
