Inlay Restorations

Brooklyn Dentist

Inlay restorations can be utilized to repair defective tooth fillings or teeth damaged by trauma and decay. An inlay restoration is a filling custom-made for your tooth in a dental laboratory. It can be made of tooth-colored porcelain, resin, or gold and is permanently cemented into the tooth by a Brooklyn Dentist.

Less tooth structure is required to be removed in the preparation of an inlay than of a crown, making inlay restorations the more conservative option. They are also the ideal alternative to composite and amalgam fillings.

Inlays are not always permanent and may require replacement, like most tooth restorations. However, inlays are incredibly durable and are strong enough to improve the look and feel of your smile for many years at a time.

Why you might benefit from inlay restorations:

What is the process for getting an inlay restoration?

Getting an inlay fitted and cemented in the mouth usually requires two visits to the dentist. On your first visit, a highly accurate mold will be taken of the affected area. This mold will be used to create both the custom inlay and a temporary restoration which you can wear until your next visit.

After numbing the tooth, old filling materials will be removed, as well as any signs of decay. The space will be cleaned, prepared, and shaped to properly fit the inlay restoration. A temporary filling will be applied.

On your second visit, the custom-made inlay will be precisely fitted and cemented into place. Any necessary adjustments to ensure a proper and comfortable fit will be made.

Care instructions for your new inlay and oral hygiene maintenance, as well as diet advice, will be provided.
